What

LOVE OVER EVERYTHING is a collaborative project by Associated Brands and Freetown Collective. The mission of the project is to realise TWO main goals:

1. To find sustainable ways of funding the rehabilitation and restoration of women who are the survivors of Gender Based Violence.
2. To use Art to communicate a simple message to the society and particularly men and boys: “Conflict is inevitable, violence is a choice.”

Who

ASSOCIATED BRANDS

As a group of private companies spanning across the Caribbean, Associated Brands (comprised of Sunshine Snacks, Charles Chocolates, Universal Cereals, Sunshine Cereals, and Devon Biscuits) has quietly contributed towards societal improvement and uplift over its 47 years of existence. However, the company has acknowledged that the issue of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) is one that needs to be amplified in a loud and urgent way. Given its influence and reach across the region, Associated Brands felt it was important to support Freetown Collective and contribute to this effort against GBV by providing time, expertise, and funds to ensure that the organisations that support GBV survivors receive as much assistance and attention as possible.

FREETOWN COLLECTIVE

may be best known as a musical band but they have a vested interest in using Art to promote social justice and reformative behaviours that would lead to healing and reconciliation. They are using their voices and influence to amplify a message that says “VIOLENCE IS A CHOICE”. We have the power make a different choice – to choose Love Over Everything.

Why

It is estimated that 1 in 3 females and 1 in 7 boys will be sexually abused before aged 18. In 2012, an estimated 47% of female homicide victims were killed by their intimate partners or family members (compared to less than 6% of male homicide victims).
According to a 2013 global review of available data, 35% of women worldwide have experienced either physical and/or sexual intimate partner violence (IPV) or non-partner sexual violence.
Between January 2020 and February 2021, the Victim Services Division (VSD) in Jamaica saw 884 clients who were victims of domestic crimes.
As of May 5th 2021, the Rape Crisis Society of Trinidad & Tobago has a total of 196 survivors of gender-based violence (GBV) on the waiting list: 104 children and 92 adults.

Rape Crisis Society

provides essential counselling and therapy services to women and children who are survivors of rape, abuse, and other forms of violence. The number of women and children in need of this service is alarming and growing rapidly; and sadly, their current resources needed to support these survivors are far from sufficient due to limited funding
